Why I Am Looking Forward to the touring Broadway's A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder

By Livia Peterson

I've attended several touring Broadway productions such as Wicked, Mamma Mia!, and Beautiful at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts' Uihlein Hall with my family. However, as a milestone birthday approaches, I pondered it is about time I provide myself with an early birthday gift in the form of a live theatrical performance. I would rather experience something than receive materialistic items. Indeed, this is my first touring Broadway production I am attending alone. Indeed, I will have attended four regional theater productions prior to this one, the finale if you will - until the Fall 2018.

Number One: A Gentleman's Guide is a musical.

Despite I still haven't attended Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, I love and adore musical theater. It is easily my favorite genre of theater, as I terribly sing along and dance in my seat. To boot, it won a Tony Award (the theater equivalent of the Academy Award) for Best Musical a few years ago.

Number Two: An annual tradition.

Attending a major live theatrical production (excluding the regional theater productions) is the annual tradition, thanks to my aunt. Ever since I was young, I remember attending some live performance with my aunt once a year. This tradition is still in full throttle even though I've commenced a similar tradition by myself. Yet, all the credit belongs to my aunt. She is the one who allowed me to attend the several theatrical productions, including The Lion King and Cirque du Soleil.

Number Three: Uihlein Hall is a stunning venue.

Despite it may be difficult for one to see the action on stage via the loge and balcony sections, Uihlein Hall remains beautiful every time I visit. The orchestra section is the best option, in my opinion.

Broadway at the Marcus Center is sponsored by the Associated Bank.

A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder runs Tuesday, May 1, 2018 through Sunday, May 6, 2018.
