Milwaukee Film, the non profit organization who presents the Annual Milwaukee Film Festival is the new operator of the beloved, historical movie palace Oriental Theater (2230 North Farwell Avenue in Milwaukee's Upper East Side). While Milwaukee Film boast a thirty one year lease, the Los Angeles based Landmark Theaters operated the cinema for forty two years.
Despite this weekend marks the Oriental Theater's ninety first anniversary, Milwaukee Film temporarily closed the cinema and improving the projection and sound systems and expanding the women's bathrooms on the first floor throughout July 2018.
On Friday, August 10, 2018, Milwaukee Film will open with BlacKkKlansman, the fact based story about the African American police officer who infiltrated a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan and McQueen, a documentary about the fashion designer Alexander McQueen.
As the Oriental Theater remains my favorite cinema, Milwaukee Film is definitely keeping its legacy alive as a vital asset to Milwaukee's flourishing film culture.
