The Milwaukee Chamber Theater Announces the Incoming Artistic Director
By Livia Peterson
The Milwaukee Chamber Theater (MCT) recently announced Brent Hazelton will become the Artistic Director during the 2020-2021 Season. He will be the interim Artistic Director during the 2019-2020 Season - Celebrating the Jouney, as the current Producing Artistic Director C. Michael Wright concludes his tenure during the 2019-2020 Season. Out of all the forty five years the MCT existed, he is only the third Artistic Director.
Mr. Hazelton is the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's current Associate Artistic and New Play Development Director. He helmed the Rep's Our Town and Guards at the Taj, among others.
The Rep's Artistic Director Mark Clements said in a statement, “In his new role as Artistic Director at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Brent will bring an impressively long list of administrative, strategic planning and artistic attributes to the table. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues at The Rep, but we thank him for his exceptional service and look forward to cheering him on in the next exciting chapter of his creative life.”
The Rep's Executive Director Chad Bauman announced in a statement, “Brent started his career more than twenty years ago at The Rep as an artistic intern growing to become our Associate Artistic Director. In that time, he’s led numerous initiatives and has been invaluable to the artistic growth of the theater. We’re thrilled that he’ll be leading the Chamber Theatre as his tremendous talents will remain in Milwaukee. Keep an eye out for Chamber in the coming years as I’m sure it will flourish under Brent’s leadership.”
As I've attended the productions helmed by Mr. Hazelton, we are guaranteed brilliant season programming under his leadership and I cannot wait.
