The six year old Moonee (Brooklynn Kimberly Prince) and her friends Jancey (Valeria Cotto) and Scooty (Christopher Rivera) pursue mischief and adventures in Kissimmee, Florida. Moonee’s rebellious and attentive mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) struggles to finance rent, food, and other necessities and therefore, sell perfume on the streets. The hotel manager Bobby (Willem Dafoe) intervenes if necessary, which is nearly all the time. Despite Moonee and Halley reside in the hotel room, the duo discover thrills to temporarily eliminate misery out of their lives. Sean Baker’s “The Florida Project” provides incredible Academy Award caliber performances, particularly by the breakout stars Ms. Prince and Ms. Vinaite, the depressingly truthful screenplay, and the vague conclusion may unexpectedly hit you in the gut. Florida delivers fun experiences at touristic destinations such as Disneyworld and Universal Studios; however, the film impeccably demonstrates life certainly sucks even in the world of princesses and princes. “The Florida Project” reiterates just leave it to the brilliant independent film studio A24 for releasing amazing films.
