In politics, the 116th Congress was recently sworn in to office, consisting of diverse ethnicities and over one hundred women, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), the youngest Congresswoman and Rashida Tliab (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), the first Muslim women. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) became the House Speaker once again. The government is still shut down and yet, President Donald Trump is threatening a National Emergency to build the Mexican border wall. In the Milwaukee film scene, Shoplifters, The Favourite, and At Eternity’s Gate continues for another week and If Beale Street Could Talk debuted at the Oriental Theater. On a related note, the 76th Golden Globe Awards will be presented tomorrow night.

In the Milwaukee theatre scene, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater will announce the Sixty Sixth Season on Monday, February 4, 2019. The Rep’s season consists of five productions in the Quadracci Powerhouse, four productions in the Stackner Cabaret, and two to four productions in the Stiemke Studio.
