Fifty Shades Freed (2018)
By Livia Peterson
The romance genre is usually targeted at the women and perhaps, a guilty pleasure. So darn formulaic and predictable, regardless of the film. Even Forever My Girl did not cross the boundaries. Yet, the final installment in the Fifty Shades trilogy is arguably worse than the Twilight series.
Based on the novel of the same name by E.L. James, Anatasia Steele-Grey (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) marry at a elegant wedding ceremony, enjoy the honeymoon and of course, sex in the Red Room seemingly drives everything in their lives. Christian controls Ana in every regard, to the point where she cannot hang out with her friends and devise decisions for herself. Expect to be uncomfortable throughout and yes, Fifty Shades does not empower, but rather degrade women.
It is difficult to enjoy and admire Fifty Shades Freed. From the incoherent narrative to the deplorable performances, it is easily the worst film of 2018 thus far. We are free to say goodbye to the Grey couple. Praise the Lord. F
