Crossroads Collective: A trendy, delicious new food hall in Milwaukee's Upper East Side

By Livia Peterson

The Milwaukee's Upper East Side is considered the college town, as the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is at the core. Yet, look a little further and we have the historic film palace - the Oriental Theater and the hidden gem Blue Star Cafe. The Oriental Theater is easily the best place located in the Upper East Side and yet, Crossroads Collective is able to be added to the limited list.

The Crossroads Collective replaces Oriental Rugs and Rosati's pizzeria. Compare the Crossroads Collective to the historic Third Ward's Milwaukee Public Market, but a million times better. The vendors prepare the food directly in front of you and served almost immediately. The vendors include Beerline Cafe, Laughing Taco, Heaven's Table BBQ, Frida, Falafel Guys, and Scratch Scoop Shop.

2238 North Farwell Avenue, adjacent to the Oriental Theater and the Sip and Purr Cafe.

The Beerline Cafe: I enjoyed the Boot and Lemon Poppy Seed and Blueberry crepes. The Boot crepe consists of roasted tomatoes and ricotta cheese, a perfect dish to fulfill your Italian craving. The Lemon Poppy Seed and Blueberry crepe includes lemon curd and garnished with poppy seeds and blueberries, a healthy and delicate dish to satisfy a mild sweet tooth.

The Laughing Taco: I relished one steak taco garnished with medium sauce. Steak, onion, and cilantro in a corn tortilla. It is one of the few examples demonstrating Mexican cuisine at its finest. I craved more following just one, regretted not purchasing three or five tacos.

The Scratch Scoop Shop: Nothing surpasses homemade ice cream. From the typical vanilla and chocolate to cookies 'n creme and creme brulee, many mouth watering options immediately entice. I devoured the toasted marshmallow s'more flavor in a cake cone. A taste of Summer dances, although the chocolate flavor is severely lacking.

Based on the three vendors I tried, the Crossroads Collective puts the Upper East Side on the map. The food selection is endless and ultimately, it is foodie heaven with a contemporary flair. Cannot wait to return!
